Before the Year Ends...

That one thing you must do before the year ends.
Decide as soon as you read this blog and then “Just Do it”, Nike style!
Every year begins with resolutions for most of us,
with sincere intentions and then life happens (it is always happening but we
realise it when things go awry). Overwhelm, self-pity, self-sabotage;
basically, the lack of balance which leads to all that and more.
Depending on our life circumstances and our mental
make-up etc., we give up as early as January and if not, surely by June. We may
get a sudden boost in the right direction near our birthday but even that does
not last that long.
There are people who are exceptions, of course, and
if you are one of those, kudos to you and I am glad we haven’t met.
For lesser mortals, who succumb, this one is for
you. Hey! Uber disciplined folks are welcome too. No discrimination here.
Two months to go! We cannot reverse time but we can
make the most of these sixty days that we have. These last two months need to
matter so that our New Year begins on a high.
The idea is to do something that you have always
wanted to do secretly but haven’t had the guts to. You always make excuses. End
2025 is your time. Our time. This is it.
For all those of you, who read this and decided 10kgs
lesser by 31December25, DROP IT. Your weight is a part of who you are and if it
has to go, let it go happily in its own sweet time not through torture. In two
months, aiming for more that 4kgs is screaming lack of self-love! Plus, read
the next paragraph to know the main aim.
I digress. Back to the plan. The best part of this
whole idea is that only the execution matters, not the outcome. We begin the
plan, step out of our comfort zone and execute it to finish line. So, if you
are still bent on weight loss, make it about the daily gym/walk/yoga routine and
not about how much you lost. Success in this endeavour is taking the plunge and
sticking with it the best we can.
The cherry on top is the fact that if we do it, we
wear the badge of honour and walk into 2026, with our heads held high and if we
don’t, we still walk into 2026, with our heads held high, knowing that 2026 is
yet, another year!! Let the Scarlett O’ Hara
in us, irrespective of gender, shine! So, what do you say? Are you up for
it?
I have been dreaming of solo travel for quite a
while now and this time I intend to carry it out. The planning and the
execution. I may ask for help but will be totally involved in everything.
It might sound cool but these are my misgivings-
Ø I
am not detail oriented. What if I get a sus deal? (This is why I said I will
take help. Research bores me but I will sit through it all.)
Ø I
work hard at home and holiday out of home means getting pampered by all those I
pamper the year through. Having to fend for myself feels like labour.
(Possibly, a lesson in self-love)
Ø What
if things don’t go as per plan? I get stuck or stranded? (I will have phone
numbers and contacts to bail me out, I guess)
Ø I
AM SCARED, AWKWARD AND HAVE NEVER DONE IT BEFORE.
Actually, No.4 is the only problem but this is it.
This is what I will do. I will let you know in my next blog, on my return.
Honestly and with pics and details.
My stomach is already showing signs of panic. I will
go domestic this time. 2 nights 3 days kind of trip.
I am excited. I know I am capable of posting this
blog and manifesting valid reasons for this not to happen so I need to breathe
and keep fear at bay.
On that note, dear readers, I sign off with a
request to share in the comments, your plans and any tips you have for a
first-time solo traveller. I seldom ask my readers to comment (why impose) but
I genuinely would like to know.
We can do this! No pressure, just pure, unadulterated fun!

Wishing you the best in execution of this beautiful idea ! Nothing like going into the 'unknown' realm... exciting!!
